GeographySharing a land border with Guatemala and
Mexico, Belize faces the Caribbean Sea and features 174 miles
of coastline, most of which is sheltered by the second largest

Culture and LanguageKnown for their cultural

Garifuna, Mestizo, Spanish, Mayan, Mennonite, Lebanese,
Chinese and East Indian among their many ethnic groups.
English is the national language, but Spanish, Creole,
Garifuna and Mayan are also widely spoken.
Political and Economic ClimateBelize is a member of
the British Commonwealth and is governed by parliamentary
democracy and experiences significantly less crime than other
Central American countries. It became an independent nation in
1981 and has a stable and progressive political history. The
national currency is fixed at a rate of US$1 to BZ$2.
